What are the differences between die-casting and casting

Although both die-casting and casting are methods used to manufacture metal parts, there are significant differences in their process flow and application areas.
1、 Different process flows
1. Casting
Casting refers to a process in which molten metal is injected into a sand or metal mold and cooled to form. Casting mainly includes various methods such as sand casting, pressure casting, and investment casting. During the casting process, the melted metal needs to be transformed into a liquid state at high temperatures, and then the finished product is formed through steps such as pouring, cooling, and demolding.
2. Die casting
Die casting is a method of molding metal by heating it to a liquid state and injecting it into a mold under high temperature and pressure. Die casting mainly includes various methods such as cold chamber die casting, hot chamber die casting, vacuum die casting, etc. Unlike casting, high pressure is required to inject metal into the mold during the die-casting process. This can enable the metal to cool and solidify in a very short period of time, and achieve high forming accuracy.
2、 Different application fields
Casting is mainly suitable for the manufacturing of large, low strength, and low precision castings, such as cast iron, cast steel, copper alloys, aluminum alloys, and other materials. Die casting is suitable for the manufacturing of small, high-precision, and high demand castings, such as components in automobiles and electronic devices, telephone casings, camera casings, laptop casings, etc.
In short, although both die-casting and casting are methods used to manufacture metal parts, there are significant differences in their process flow and application areas. We can choose different methods to manufacture different types of castings according to different needs.
